An arrest-eluding human smuggler was involved in a car accident that claimed the lives of a Texas grandmother and her 7-year-old granddaughter on Monday, according to authorities.
They are Emilia Tambunga, a second-grader at Ozona Elementary School, and Maria Tambunga, 71, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The Texas DPS Claims
The Texas DPS claims that during a high-speed pursuit on eastbound I-10 in Ozona, a human smuggler ran a red light and struck their vehicle. The 2021 Dodge pickup truck’s driver and two of the 11 illegal immigrants who were being transported in it died in the collision as well. They were both Mexican.
Rassian Comer, 22, a Louisiana native, the driver, is still hospitalized at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and is in critical condition. A charge is expected.

While I am heartbroken, I am also enraged. Enough is enough. Illegal immigration is killing Americans. We need to stop with the rhetoric & deliver solutions. https://t.co/gEWadYf7g0
