Governor Abbott Selects Alvis And Meade For Texas Transportation Commission

Steven D. Alvis and Alejandro “Alex” G. Meade, III have been appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Texas Transportation Commission, respectively, for terms that end on February 1, 2025, and February 1, 2029. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is governed by the Commission, which is also in charge of establishing rules for TxDOT’s operations and making decisions about the state’s highway policy. The Commission also creates a statewide transportation plan and supports the growth of public transportation.

“I appreciate Governor Abbott appointing Alex Meade to the Texas Transportation Commission,” said Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa. “He has made an excellent choice given the knowledge and experience Alex has with both the public and private sectors, as well as his banking and finance background. I am confident Alex will work tirelessly to provide transportation solutions that will take care of the needs of all Texans. I look forward to supporting him through the Senate confirmation process.”

Texas Regional Bank’s executive vice president is Mission resident Alejandro “Alex” G. Meade III. He previously held the positions of chief executive officer of the Mission Economic Development Corporation and city manager for the City of Pharr. He served as a board member of the Border Trade Alliance, a former member of the Texas State Technical College System’s board of regents, and a former director on the board of the Texas Economic Development Corporation.

He holds certifications from the National Development Council as a professional in economic development finance and from the National Certified Public Manager Consortium as a certified public manager. Meade graduated from St. Edward’s University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics, the University of Texas at Brownsville with a Master of Business Administration, and the University of Texas-Pan American with a Master of Public Administration. He graduated from the Texas Lyceum as well.

Alvis attended the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. Senate confirmation is required for these appointments.
