On 20th August, Sunday afternoon, in response to the severe heat, ERCOT issued a voluntary conservation notice for the state of Texas. Because of the excessive temperatures, ongoing high demand, and unexpected loss of thermal generating, ERCOT announced on platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter, that the notice would be from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on August 20.

Residents of Texas are being invited to voluntarily cut their electricity consumption if they can do so safely. Additionally, ERCOT is urging that all government agencies, including city and county offices, implement any and all programs that are designed to reduce the amount of energy used at their respective locations.
