On Saturday, a vehicle that was traveling on Texas 315 collided with a patrol SUV that was being driven by two Panola County Sheriff’s Office deputies, causing them to sustain injuries.
At approximately 2:13 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office, the deputies responded to a call about animals that had gotten loose on Texas 315 near FM 1971. According to the sheriff’s office, the deputies had identified the cow and were waiting for traffic to clear so they could make a U-turn when their Vehicle was rear-ended by a truck. The deputies were injured.
“A DPS trooper, other deputies, Clayton VFD and Allegiance EMS responded to the scene,” the sheriff’s office said. “Both deputies were taken to UT Carthage by ambulance. One deputy has since been airlifted to UT Tyler as a precaution. The occupants of the other vehicle were treated at the scene by the VFD and EMS.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the collision. According to the sheriff’s office, the truck driver was issued a citation for failing to maintain control of the Vehicle’s speed.

“We are thankful that the injuries weren’t more serious given the damage done to the vehicles,” the sheriff’s office said.
