According to WFAA, a mother is in custody in Italy, Texas, after allegedly stabbing three of her children to death and injuring two more. Three elementary school-aged children were discovered dead inside a home near Stafford Elementary School in the small Ellis County town on Friday afternoon, according to sources.
Two other children were injured and flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital with stab wounds. Their current conditions are unknown. WFAA was told by Child Protective Services that all five children were siblings.
According to CPS sources, the suspect allegedly stabbed her children when a CPS worker, who suspected the mother was having unsupervised visitations with her children, arrived at the scene unannounced to check on her. CPS had previously placed the children under the guardianship of another relative.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that CPS was at a home on the street where the crime occurred and then called 911 for assistance. According to waffa.com there is no current additional threat to the greater community.
CPS issued the following statement to WFAA: “We are shocked by this incomprehensible tragedy and are already working with law enforcement to investigate how and why this occurred.”
