Many critics say Texas US senator Ted Cruz should advocate for meaningful g*n control rather than “praying” for the families of the eight victims ki!!ed in a shopping mall sh**ting in his state.
After Saturday’s Allen, Texas, sh**ting, President Joe Biden urged Congress to implement g*n control laws. After the Texas slayings, Cruz and other Texas Republicans were criticized for offering vague emotional sympathy, thoughts, and prayers.
Criticism of Cruz grew several hours after the sh**ting when he tweeted: “Heidi and I are praying for the families of the victims of the horrific mall sh**ting in Allen, Texas. We also pray for the broader Collin County community that’s in shock from this tragedy.” You can see below:

Shannon Watts, the founder of the g*n safety group Moms Demand Action, said on Twitter: “YOU helped arm him with g*ns, ammo and tactical gear. He did exactly what you knew he’d do. Spare us your prayers and talk of justice for a g*nman who is … de@d. You can see below:

Biden urged Congress to outlaw assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, universal background checks, and g*n manufacturer immunity. The Democratic president said the sh**ter had an AR-15 g*n and tactical gear. Although most Americans support background checks, the finely split House and Senate are unlikely to adopt such legislation.

After gunman ki!!ed 19 children and two teachers at the Robb Elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on 24 May 2022, Cruz commented: “Heidi and I are lifting up in prayer the entire … community during this devastating time and we mourn the lives that were taken by this act of evil. None of us can imagine the anguish the parents in Uvalde are going through. Our hearts go out to them.”
In response to a racist sh**ting at an El Paso Walmart that left 23 de@d in August 2019, Cruz said, “Heidi & I are praying for everyone in El Paso. As events unfold, please heed local authorities and law enforcement warnings and stay safe. #Pray4ElPaso.”
Cruz’s comment on a sh**ting that left two de@d near one of his state’s universities a couple of months later was: “Heidi and I are lifting up in prayer those who were ki!!ed and injured in last night’s sh**ting at an off-campus party at Texas A&M Commerce @tamuc.”
Cruz has offered more than prayers in response to certain mass sh**tings, though, such as commentary on immigration policy. After authorities said that a Mexican national who had previously been deported shot five neighbors to de@th last month, Cruz tweeted: “Thank you to the brave men and women of law enforcement who worked tirelessly to apprehend this mass mu*dering illegal alien who ki!!ed 5 innocent people. The victims deserve justice. And this monster when convicted deserves the de@th penalty.”

Early on Saturday, Cruz said of declared 2024 challenger Colin Allred, a Democratic congressman: “Wow. This guy wants to represent Texas??” quoting him saying, “Would it be better if [the second amendment] had not been written? Of course. But there’s no chance that we’re going to repeal” it.

On Sunday, Allen-based Republican US congressman Keith Self bristled when asked about evoking spirituality after mass mu*ders like the one a day before. NBC News and CNN identified the sh**ter as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, citing law authorities. NBC News called Garcia a neo-Nazi.
Self told CNN that those folks don’t believe in an almighty God who controls our life.
“I believe he’s a Christian.” Self also blamed mass sh**tings on the US’s mental health system. He then advised the nation to pray for the Allen families.
Greg Abbott, Texas’s Republican governor, also wanted to discuss mental health after the Allen Mall massacre. Eve Abbott told Fox News Sunday that people want a speedy fix. “The long-term solution is mental health.”
After anchor Shannon Bream mentioned that 80% of Fox News poll respondents backed g*n control measures such as raising the minimum age to acquire a handg*n and mental health checks, Abbott commented on mental health. Cruz, Abbott, and Self did not respond to inquiries. Despite Texas’s history of major sh**tings, Abbott signed a law in 2021 allowing residents to carry weapons without a license or training. Last year, a federal judge overturned Texas’s last firearm ban for under-21s.
