According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, 26-year-old Gabriella Gonzalez was with her boyfriend, 22-year-old Harold Thompson, on Wednesday when he attempted to choke her. She had returned from Colorado the previous evening after traveling there to obtain an abortion.

“It is believed that the suspect was the father of the child,” the affidavit said. “The suspect did not want (Gonzalez) to get an abortion.”

Gonzalez “shrugs him off,” according to the cops, as shown on surveillance footage taken in the parking lot, and the two continue to walk. Gonzalez is subsequently shot in the head by Thompson after he pulls a gun. The affidavit claimed that once she hits the ground, Thompson shoots her several times before fleeing.

Later on Wednesday, Thompson was detained and is currently being held without bond at the Dallas County Jail. There was no attorney listed in court records who could speak for him.

According to investigators, Gonzalez’s sister was present at the site and heard the gunfire. Despite seeing Thompson attempt to choke Gonzalez, a second witness was unable to notify the police because she was without her cell phone.

Thompson had been charged with assaulting a family member at the time of the shooting after she said he had choked her in March.

Gonzalez is not expressly identified as the victim of the assault in the March affidavit. However, it does state that the lady reported to police that Thompson “beat her up numerous times throughout the course of their relationship” and that Thompson informed authorities that she was at the time pregnant with his kid.

According to the affidavit, the woman “reiterated that she is scared of the suspect because he has threatened to harm her family and her children.”
